A moment before the premiere

A lot of work goes into a production before it’s finally presented to the audience. The culmination of the rehearsal period is when the rehearsals move from the rehearsal room to the stage. The last rehearsals before the opening night are called Dress Rehearsals.

We provide schools and other special groups the opportunity to visit our Dress Rehearsals as a test audience. The test audience adds an element of excitement, which gives the performers a taste of the real performance atmosphere.

Advance enrolment is always necessary for the Dress Rehearsals.

Enrolment to 2024–2025 Dress Rehearsals

Seats for our open Dress Rehearsals are allocated in order of enrolment, with priority given to first-time visitors. The maximum group size for schools is two school classes and 30 people for other groups due to restricted audience numbers. Please note that bookings are only accepted via the application form on our Finnish site  and according to the schedule given below. Please see the enrolment instructions.

Groups who have applied for seats will receive confirmation of successful enrolment within two to three weeks. Some Dress Rehearsals also include production-specific workshops. These will be announced separately to those who have successfully enrolled in the rehearsal in question. Please note that the current schedule may change.

Open Dress Rehearsals in the 2024–2025 season at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet

The application forms will be published on the Finnish site before the enrolment starts. Please note that enrolment may end quickly, even on the same day.

Enrolment to the following Dress Rehearsals in autumn 2024 will start on Monday 13 May at 9 a.m.

Fri 20 Sep at 11.30 a.m. A Midsummer Night’s Dream (duration 2 H 15 min, incl. 1 interval)
Age recommendation 12+.

Enrolment to the following Dress Rehearsals in autumn 2024 will start later.

Wed 9 Oct at 11 a.m. Salome (duration 1 H 45 min, no interval)
Age recommendation 16+. Please note that the performance contains some scenes with sexual violence.

Wed 30 Oct at 11.30 a.m. Death in Venice (estimated duration 2 H 20 min, incl. 1 interval)
Age recommendation 14+.

Tue 19 Nov at 11 a.m. The Ostrobothnians (estimated duration 3 H, incl. 1 interval)
Age recommendation 14+.

Thu 28 Nov at 11.30 a.m. A Christmas Carol (duration 2 H 15 min, inc. 1 interval)
For elementary schools only!

Fri 29 Nov at 11.30 a.m. A Christmas Carol (duration 2 H 15 min, inc. 1 interval)

Enrolment instructions

We are delighted by the high level of interest groups have taken in our open Dress Rehearsals. To make it possible for as many groups as possible to attend, it is important to answer all the following questions on the enrolment form:

Unfortunately, we are unable to process incomplete enrolment forms or accept enrolment via email. As it takes a few weeks to process the forms, there is a slight delay in confirming seats.
