Street and ballet moves @oopperabaletti

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet is joining the celebrations for International Dance Day 2024. This year, the theme of the Dance Day is street dance.

During the event, audiences are invited to watch the Finnish National Ballet’s rehearsals, and the Opera House opens its doors to dancers of various genres, with a particular focus on street dance and street dance culture. Dance groups and other attendees will also have the opportunity to join two street dance classes led by esteemed instructors.

Open House

Open House event at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet offers a wealth of things to see, hear and experience for children and adults alike. This year the program includes for example workshops, guided tours and short performances. The events are suitable for visitors of all ages, particularly children aged 4 or more.

Dance Schools’ Ballet Happening

Scores of young Finnish students of ballet will gather together at the Opera House to perform on the Main Stage. The dance numbers have been selected by the Association of Dance Institutes in Finland and the Finnish National Ballet.

Juha Tapio – a birthday concert

The beloved singer and songwriter celebrates his fiftieth birthday in February 2024. A special celebration requires a special venue, so Juha is making his long-term dream come true and bringing his band to the Finnish National Opera’s Main Stage for the first time.

The Ballet School Presents: Spring Gala 2024

The spring gala in May at Almi Hall culminates the academic year’s hard work for the pupils and vocational students of the Ballet School. The repertoire includes both classical ballet and contemporary dance.

Strauss Concert

One of the delightful traditions in Helsinki, at the beginning of the New Year, are the Strauss Concerts. On Epiphany Day, Saturday January 6th the Main Stage at the National Opera invites you to enjoy the festive concerts.

Chamber music festival

The Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023. To mark the occasion, the orchestra musicians will give their audience a birthday present: the immensely popular free foyer concerts will be staged in Töölö, Helsinki, on the anniversary weekend from 1 to 3 September. Three concerts will take place at the Concert Hall of the R Building of Sibelius Academy and two in the impressive ballroom of the Aalto University Töölö.

In the Limelight Presents: Katve

Every year, In the Limelight music theatre group for 12–16-year-olds has free reign to create and produce a music theatre performance after their own heart, in co-operation with seasoned professionals.

As the sun sets on an August evening, the stirring symphonic song cycle “Das Lied von der Erde” (The Song of the Earth) by Gustav Mahler will resound in the air.

Mini Opera: Carmen

Two singers and two musicians tell the story of Carmen in just half an hour. Children and adults alike will love the catching melodies and fiery Spanish rhythms of this ever popular opera.
