introduction
Sofia Molin works as an actor, director, and theatre educator. Her artistic practice ranges from clowning to postdramatic stage adaptations and strongly site-specific experimental forms of performance.
Her recent works have been presented at venues including Turku City Theatre, Teatteri Telakka, Tehdasteatteri, Grus Grus Teatteri, and Åbo Svenska Teater.
Among her most significant directing and adaptation projects is Ennuste negatiivinen – Prognos, negativ (2021), a site-specific bilingual production co-produced by Grus Grus Teatteri and the Turku Neurocenter. Based on a short story by W. Kyrklund, the production was a world premiere. Another important work is Kärringmossen (2020), presented at Åbo Svenska Teater and the Punainen helmi festival, which drew inspiration from bouffon clowning and Molin’s own autofictional dramatic framework.
Molin looks forward to creating contemporary opera through the methods of contemporary theatre, in close collaboration with a composer and writer. Her practice is characterised by an expansive and exploratory way of working, in which a performance emerges through an intensive dialogue between the artistic interests of the working group, the material qualities of the stage, and the gradual, almost imperceptible development of a shared theatrical language.
