introduction
Khalil AbuSharekh is a Palestinian American writer based in Helsinki, Finland. He grew up in Al Shati refugee camp in Gaza City. His essay “Zeppole (aka Awama)” was selected for The Best American Essays 2025 (Mariner Books).
He received a grant from the Kone Foundation for The Gaza Trilogy, a multi-volume fiction project. He is currently completing its first novel, The Beach Camp, a coming-of-age story set in Al Shati refugee camp.
His writing explores displacement, memory, and the intersections of Palestinian, American, and Finnish landscapes. He looks forward to bringing this work into collaboration with composers and directors on The Sugar Factory.
