Support for teachers

Arts-themed day (held in Finnish only) provides teachers with insights into the operations of the Opera or Ballet and the evening’s performance in workshops designed for different subjects. The aim is to enable both teachers and supervisors to discover new methods and opportunities for integrative and multidisciplinary teaching. The subjects of the theme day vary by season.

Free experiences

We’re delighted to invite all senior citizens to our joyful and informal Opera Teatime Dance. The event takes place on the first or second Wednesday of each month in the Main Foyer of the Opera House. Please check the calendar for the exact schedule. The music is provided by different ensembles and soloists. You can also watch a live broadcast of the Teatime Dance via our Stage24 service.

The Music in the Foyer concert series presents favourite pieces of music performed by the orchestra musicians or singers of the Finnish National Opera. The concerts are scheduled for Saturday afternoons. The repertoire and performers for each performance are announced during the week leading up to the event on the concert page.

Watch our dress rehearsals with a group or a Culture Companion

The last rehearsal before the premiere is called the final dress rehearsal. We offer schools and other special groups the opportunity to join us as a test audience at the final dress rehearsal. To register, please fill out the form on our dress rehearsal page in the given timeframe. Learn more about dress rehearsals.

You can also come and watch the Finnish National Opera and Ballet’s dress rehearsals with a culture companion. You can request a culture companion to join you at cultural events in Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa for free. Read more about Culture Companions.

Peek behind the scenes on a guided tour

The night onstage is the culmination of weeks, even months of hard work in workshops, ateliers and rehearsal rooms. A guided tour of the Opera House casts a glimpse into life behind the scenes, showcasing the vast amount of expertise that eventually makes a performance a success. Tours are available in Finnish and last approximately one hour. Tickets for the guided tours can be purchased in our online store (site available only in Finnish).
