Don Quixote’s Basilio: the role and its creators
The story of Don Quixote comes alive at the Finnish National Ballet in a colourful, dazzling and fast-paced production, based on an episode from Miguel de Cervantes’ classic novel and the iconic choreography by Marius Petipa. The tale of Kitri and her beloved Basilio enchants audiences time after time.
The role of the joyful and witty Basilio, an ordinary young man, demands genuine stage presence combined with strong technical virtuosity. In the video, Giulio Diligente speaks about interpreting Basilio as a dream come true, his first leading role in a full-length ballet. Étoile dancer Michal Krčmář also shares his thoughts on his long relationship with the part, which he has returned to again and again over the years.
In the rehearsal studio and on stage, we witness experience and a new beginning coming together, and the continual rebirth of the story.
