Swan Lake: towards the premiere
The classic ballet Swan Lake found a new form when David McAllister’s choreography had its premiere during the centenary of the Finnish National Ballet in 2022. Due to the pandemic lockdowns, the production was presented in exceptional circumstances: without an audience, as a live stream on the Stage24 platform, Yle Teema and Yle Areena.
In this video, the Finnish National Ballet’s then Artistic Director Madeleine Onne and choreographer David McAllister discuss how the ballet came to life amid those extraordinary circumstances. The dancers also share their personal experiences of performing Swan Lake and offer an insight into what it means to dance the role of the swan.
