Ballet Day for schools

This Christmas, the Finnish National Opera and Ballet is giving a special gift to schools. Throughout the school day on 17 December 2025, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King will be available free of charge on this page to all comprehensive schools in Finland. Learn more about Ballet Day and enrol your class to take part.

Ballet Day will be celebrated across Finland on 17 December, when the Finnish National Ballet invites every comprehensive school in the country to enjoy The Nutcracker and the Mouse King together online. The event is completely free for schools.

Each school and class can watch the performance in its own space and step into the magical world of this iconic ballet. The performance can be viewed on this page between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., so you can fit the viewing into your own schedule. Watching the recording does not require logging in.

The ballet consists of two acts with an interval in between. We recommend using the interval to enjoy lunch or get some fresh air. Of course, you can also watch the entire work in one sitting!
The duration of Act I is 55 minutes, and Act II lasts 50 minutes.

Composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, this Christmas classic is one of the most popular ballets of all time. You can read more about the production below.

We look forward to celebrating it with you!
