An opera of great yearning

Tchaikovsky’s achingly beautiful music combined with Pushkin’s poem of unfulfilled longing resulted in one of the most moving works in the history of opera. A new, beautiful and insightful production directed by Marco Arturo Marelli focuses on the wistful memories of Onegin, weary with his life.

Eugene Onegin; Olesya Golovneva

“There was something completely new in Eugene Onegin: it featured realistic young people, with all their feelings, longings, disappointments and doubts. Every one of us has experienced something similar. That is what makes Eugene Onegin so very valuable.”

– Marco Arturo Marellli, director

Tatiana falls in love with Onegin and writes him a letter, but Onegin does not care for her. Olga, for her part, is loved by Lensky, but their happiness is cut short as Lensky is killed in a duel with Onegin. Years later, Onegin returns and finds Tatiana married to Gremin. Now it is Onegin who writes a love letter, but Tatiana has already made up her mind.
