Autumn 2021: order refreshments in advance

We are taking the safety of our audience and employees very seriously. All refreshments will be laid out on named tables. Please order your refreshments in good time through our online store, by telephone, at a customer service desk, or via the mobile app.

On the day of the performance, you can order refreshments by phone for Mon-Fri performances by 4 pm on the same day. For Saturday performances, telephone orders must be placed by 4pm on Friday. Same-day orders can be placed Monday–Friday at the customer service desk up to 4pm as well as one hour before the performance, Saturdays one hour before the performance.

A small selection of refreshments will be available at the service counters in the foyer, but these must be enjoyed while seated. All visitors are guaranteed a seat. Face masks are mandatory for every adult visiting the Opera House, unless they have a health condition preventing them from doing so.

The Opera House doors open 1.5 hours before a performance, and pre-performance refreshments will be laid out on tables one hour before the performance starts. Service counters will also open one hour before the performance. Please note that the service point in the Balcony Foyer is closed until further notice and that the wine lounge in the Main Foyer is only open before performances.

Please only visit us when you are feeling well! You can cancel your ticket and refreshments up to seven hours before the start of the performance. Read more about sales terms and conditions.

Everyday luxury and enjoyment for all the senses

The look, feel and flavours of the Opera Restaurant’s product range are created with utmost care to complete your opera or ballet experience.

As seasons play an essential part in the Finnish food culture, our restaurant’s menu changes to reflect the season’s harvest, too. Natural and local ingredients define the product selection. From our youngest to oldest customers, we want to cater to everyone’s needs and preferences. This means vegan and gluten free treats abound, too.

Our restaurant service is provided by Food&Events Tapahtumaravintolat.

Introducing our signature cake, Adagio

The Opera Restaurant’s dedicated pâtissier has fashioned a signature cake for the Finnish National Opera and Ballet. Called Adagio after a naming contest in 2021, it is a delicious and creative interpretation of its context and local history.

The shape of the signature cake is based on the curved lines of the Opera House and the tutu of a ballerina. The surprising apple compote filling represents the apple trees growing outside the building, while the sugar coating is a historical reference: the Opera House is located at the site of an old sugar factory.

Delightful drinks

In response to audience requests, we now serve a selection of specialty coffees at the Opera House. The barista at Juhan Kulma Café delights coffee lovers with steaming cappuccinos and espressos.

We also recommend the signature drink of the house, ”The Golden Clef”, a combination of dry house cava and strawberry and rhubarb cocktail mixer from a small, Helsinki-based producer. A mocktail version is also available with alcohol-free sparkling wine instead of cava. An ice cube with a golden treble clef frozen inside it adds a unique touch.

Before you order

  • You can enjoy the refreshments either before the performance or during the interval.
  • In our online store you can place a order for up to 20 people. For groups of more than 20 people, please email ravintola.oopperabaletti[at]restel.fi.
  • Online sales end no later than 24 hours before the performance. Please note that tables are often reserved well in advance, particularly for premieres and matinees.
  • You can also order interval refreshments on your phone through the Opera&Ballet mobile app. Download the app on App Store or Google Play.
  • We will email your table number and location to the address linked to your user account, no later than few hours before the performance. The table number will also be sent to the Opera&Ballet mobile application. Please note that we cannot guarantee a specific table for orders made via the online store. We may also seat several parties at the same table. You may be assigned a bar height table for enjoying refreshments standing up.
  • Refreshments can also be ordered by telephone (€5 /order). For Mon-Fri performances you can order by telephone until 4 p.m. on the same day. For Saturday performances we accept orders until 4 p.m. on the day before. The cost of orders made by telephone will be charged to your credit card during the call.
  • Enquiries about table availability for same day performances can be made one hour before the start of the performance at the Customer Service at the Töölönlahti entrance of the Opera House.
