Finland’s finest conjure a gripping fusion of classic and contemporary
World-renowned choreographer Tero Saarinen’s latest brings new dimensions to opera pioneer Claudio Monteverdi’s revolutionary music. The composer’s breathtakingly beautiful madrigals are incarnated on stage by tenor Topi Lehtipuu, virtual soprano Núria Rial plus the dancers of Tero Saarinen Company and musicians from Helsinki Baroque Orchestra – flagships of their respective genres in Finland and among Europe’s leading forces in contemporary dance and baroque music.
Choreographer Saarinen is known for his distinctive movement language and insightful fusions of dance, live music and stunning visuals. His recent creations include Sibelius’s Kullervo (2015) in collaboration with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet and Zimmermann Trio (2018), commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Third Practice (2019) received its world premiere at the Monteverdi Festival Cremona in Italy last year.
