William Shakespeare (1564–1616) wrote a timeless tragedy of two lover, Romeo Montague and Julia Capulet, set in Verona. Now this tale of young lovers caught in the conflicts and pressures of the surrounding community is recast in a choreography by Natália Horečná. Horečná is one of the hottest names in dance theatre in Europe at the moment. Her expressive and imaginative works combine classical ballet with modern stage performance.
In Romeo and Juliet, Natália Horečná shows what a lack of understanding and a shortage of love can cause. The production is set to the achingly beautiful music of Serge Prokofiev.
Joint production by the Finnish National Opera and Ballet and the Slovakian National Theatre.
