An opera of great yearning

Tchaikovsky’s achingly beautiful music combined with Pushkin’s poem of unfulfilled longing resulted in one of the most moving works in the history of opera. This beautiful and insightful production directed by Marco Arturo Marelli focuses on the wistful memories of Onegin, weary with his life.

Recommended for children over the age of 12.

Eugene Onegin; Olesya Golovneva

It begins with desires and dreams, the yearning for life to begin and love to be found. Then suddenly, it’s already over. All that’s left is broken hearts, lost hope, painful memories, and unanswered questions: where did my youth go, why did I not take my chances?

Marco Arturo Marelli

“There was something completely new in Eugene Onegin: it featured realistic young people, with all their feelings, longings, disappointments and doubts. Every one of us has experienced something similar. That is what makes Eugene Onegin so very valuable.”

– Marco Arturo Marellli, director

Eugene Onegin

“Eugene Onegin – I think this just became my new favourite opera. The music was enchanting, the sets were stunning and the costumes magnificent. The performance impressed and moved me, it was as close to perfection as it gets. This evening fuelled me with new energy for everyday life.”

Listen

Tchaikovsky’s music is an irresistible journey into the lives of Tatyana, Onegin, Lensky and Olga, a revisit to the passion of youth. It’d be difficult not to fall for this opera.

Synopsis

Tatiana falls in love with Onegin and writes him a letter, but Onegin does not care for her. Olga, for her part, is loved by Lensky, but their happiness is cut short as Lensky is killed in a duel with Onegin. Years later, Onegin returns and finds Tatiana married to Gremin. Now it is Onegin who writes a love letter, but Tatiana has already made up her mind.
