The Orchestra and Chorus of the FNO present Carmina Burana, the great cantata of 24 secular songs written by Carl Orff in 1937. The texts of Carmina Burana come from a Medieval song collection of the same name; they praise the return of spring and the joys of drinking, eating and gaming.
Carmina Burana has been Orff’s best-known work by far since the 1930s when it was written. It is full of thumping rhythms, catchy melodies and walls of sound. The music, particularly the impressive chorus ‘O Fortuna’, has been much used in films and TV ads, but complete performances are relatively rare.
Carmina Burana as performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the FNO with soloists is an event not to be missed!
