The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet
The Youth Company of the Finnish National Ballet comprises around a dozen young dancers. The Youth Company gives newly graduated dancers valuable experience in live performances and helps them learn important work routines at the dawn of their career.
Dancers are selected for the Youth Company through yearly auditions that are also used to fill other vacancies across the Finnish National Ballet. Typically about half of the troupe’s dancers are graduates of the Ballet School of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet or another Finnish dance school, while the remaining half comes from other parts of the world.
The dancers of the Youth Company usually have one or two productions of their own every year. In addition to this, they perform with other dancers of the Finnish National Ballet in Main Stage productions. They have also been seen in major soloist roles on the Main Stage during their time in the Youth Company. Along with the repertoire at the Opera House, the Youth Company dancers have the opportunity to participate in international guest performances.
The Artistic Coordinator of the youth company is Nicholas Ziegler.
The Youth Company, which was established in 2013, is funded by the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
