Lilli Paasikivi’s term as Artistic Director extended up to 2023

The Board of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet has decided to extend Lilli Paasikivi’s term as the Artistic Director of the National Opera by three years up to 31st July 2023. She was appointed Artistic Director in 2013 and her current term will come to an end on 31st July 2020. The new appointment will be effective as of 1st August 2020.

The Board made the decision to extend Paasikivi’s term following consultations with the orchestra, choir and soloists. In its decision, the Board states that her merits as the Artistic Director are indisputable. Among other things, she has successfully renewed the repertoire and been able to attract new audiences through a bold and imaginative selection of works as well as negotiated a new media agreement with artists that permits an extensive utilisation of the digital media.

Through her excellent personal contacts within the world of music, Paasikivi has been able to attract a large number of famed Finnish and foreign visiting artists to the Finnish National Opera. The Board trusts that Paasikivi will continue to pursue her visionary work during her new term.
