The Land of Kalevala is an extravaganza that forms part of the celebrations for the centenary of Finland’s independence, choreographed by Kenneth Greve, Artistic Director of the Finnish National Ballet (FNB). Its story touches on milestone moments in Finnish history and culture with a bold combination of various art forms. The end result will be a playful, touching and slightly mad production that can only be the work of an outside observer. Danish-born Greve took up the post of Artistic Director of the FNB in 2008, and his term will end in summer 2018.
“Kalevala Jewelry is a Finnish icon. I have been wearing their designs for years myself. I am thrilled to be part of designing an item of jewellery that will convey the story of The Land of Kalevala to the broader Finnish public. I hope it will become an item worn with pride and a source of inner strength,” says Kenneth Greve.
The necklace will be designed by Kirsti Doukas, Design Director at Kalevala Jewelry and the designer of the Twinflower, Fountain, Dream and Polaris collections.
“I am pleased for us to have the opportunity to design an item of jewellery based on Kenneth Greve’s The Land of Kalevala. Stories are very much a strong point for Kirsti Doukas. Kalevala Jewelry and The Land of Kalevala share the same foundation of Finnish themes, so this partnership is an excellent fit. This modern work dovetails well with our forward-looking business,” says Riitta Huuhtanen, Managing Director of Kalevala Jewelry.
The Land of Kalevala will be premiered on November 3rd, 2017, and the necklace will be unveiled as part of the autumn 2017 range of Kalevala Jewelry. Group bookings for performances of the ballet extravaganza are already available. Individual tickets will go on sale in April 2017.
